Traditional Guatemalan Clothing

Traditional Guatemalan clothing was usually simple in form and elaborate in colors and design.  Traditional Guatemalan clothing is made from hand-woven textiles featuring bright colors knit into intricate patterns and designs.  From these unique textiles, traditional Guatemalan clothing like blouses, skirts, sashes, and shawls are made.

Traditional Guatemalan clothing is unique to each town or village and to each ethnolinguistic group, so traditional Guatemalan clothing encompasses a wide cultural variety.  In fact, it’s possible to tell what group or village a Guatemalan is from based on the traditional Guatemalan clothing they are wearing.  Indigenous Guatemalans are proud to wear their traditional Guatemalan clothing.
